Airtel Zambia, in collaboration with IHS Towers, has announced a significant investment of $14 million to construct 152 new telecommunications towers across the country over the next six months. This initiative aims to improve network quality and expand coverage, particularly in underserved regions, aligning with Zambia’s broader digital transformation goals.

The Project
The project is structured in two phases: an initial deployment of 50 towers, followed by an additional 102 towers. Currently, Airtel Zambia’s network covers 91.6% of the population. With this expansion, the company targets increasing coverage to 93% by 2026 and reaching between 95% and 96% by 2027.
This development is part of Zambia’s Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), which emphasizes public-private partnerships to enhance digital infrastructure. The government’s commitment to universal connectivity is evident, though challenges such as device affordability and digital literacy remain.
The expansion also addresses issues faced during the 2024 drought, which led to significant power shortages affecting telecom operations. Despite these challenges, Zambia’s ICT sector demonstrated resilience, recording a 17.4% growth in 2024.
In parallel, MTN Zambia is advancing its network capabilities by partnering with Huawei to deploy Meta-Active Antenna Units (Meta-AAUs). This technology is designed to enhance network performance and energy efficiency, supporting the country’s transition towards 5G connectivity.

Tecnologia have been working with Paysafe since November 2020 in 2 key workstreams: Automation Delivery and Mobile Chatbot Migration, supporting the Paysafe Automation365 team specialising in Cognitive and Robotic Automation.
Automation Delivery – Tecnologia are working with the Paysafe Automation365 team to identify, design, build, test and deploy automated solutions using UiPath Automation Software. Thus far Tecnologia have delivered 28 Automations across 3 core business functions: Merchant Services, Consumer Services and Risk.
Mobile ChatBot Migration – Tecnologia led the migration of chatbots from a web browser platform to mobile platforms (Android and iOS). In addition to this, Tecnologia has implemented an intermediate communication layer to enable a seamless handoff between chatbot and live agent providers to win and support new deals.
